Please write an email in support of Willowbrook Manor ~

You may remember when I asked for letters to the county in support of agrotourism businesses here in Skagit Valley back in 2023. The response was great, and I thank you. However, I need you to write again.

Since then, county officials have been deliberating on how to preserve farmland. Their slogan is ‘Big A (Agriculture) little T (Tourism)’. The county fears that agrotourism, if unchecked, will swallow up farmland. To that end, they are revising code requirements. Specialty-niche rural businesses like mine are being required to meet the same commercial requirements as full-time, in-city establishments. Some upgrades to meet these requirements are doable by Willowbrook Manor. However, commercial water and commercial access / egress changes to become code compliant will require capital investment far beyond my means.

I researched and submitted to the county a creative commercial water system that would be cost-effective and bring me into compliance. They have not yet responded. I have an egress proposal ready to submit.

The county has opened a window for public comment. I am asking you to write to Skagit County officials and ask them to please approve the industry-accepted solutions used in extreme rural locations submitted by Willowbrook Manor to become compliant. These look different from the urban businesses with which the county is familiar in establishing codes. A letter from you could provide the nudge that the county needs to allow Willowbrook to continue to operate. If not, I will have to close after May 30th of next year.
